An Indian Civil Society Initiative to Understand India's GHG Emission Estimates

Waste Sector

The waste sector comprises of three main sectors -Domestic waste water, Industrial waste water and Municipal Solid Waste Disposal. There are different scenarios for which emissions are estimated for each of the above mentioned sub sectors that are based on a different set of assumptions. For example, for domestic waste water, emissions are estimated for two scenarios. However, for Municipal Solid Waste Disposal, emissions are estimated using three different scenarios. For data sources and information, Government of India census data, National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO), Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, corroborated with other Government of India associations were considered. The Emission Factors used are largely from the 2006 IPCC guidelines, with country-specific coefficients and emission factors used where available.
