Note: Net AFOLU emissions = 170.58 Mt CO2e and Gross AFOLU emissions = 351.55 Mt CO2e
Contribution of the three sub-sectors of AFOLU is computed with respect to gross AFOLU emissions.

India's GHG emissions increased at a 4.90% Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) from ~1,586 Mt CO2e in 2005 to ~2,953 Mt CO2e 2018. The bulk of this emissions growth was fuelled by the Energy sector, which accounted for 83% of the total emissions of India in 2018. The remaining emissions were from IPPU (7%), AFOLU (6%), and Waste (4%). Emissions from the Energy sector grew at a CAGR of 6.07%, this was followed by the IPPU sector (6.02%), between 2005 and 2018. Whereas, emissions from the waste sector increased at a CAGR of 2.02% over the reference period. In contrast, the AFOLU sector emissions declined during this period at a CAGR of 3.09%.
